Jan 30, 2013: 8L practice first full run practice of the season

December 17, 2012: 5L practice

December 3, 2012 5th jump day

Today was the 5th session of jumping this season. Nothing serious just trying to get back into the rhythm of things and get my mojo goin again. Feels so good to be on the runway. I live for this stuff. I had a minor set back in September with a broken fifth metacarpal just above the joint so its been a slow start for me this season. I've had the cast off for 4 weeks now but I tweeked it again Friday doing box jumps so I had to tape it up today as thick as a cast!

I had a blast tho, Im really going to focus on my plant this season in creating a better angle of take off so I can get that grip up. Cant wait!

6L jumps today from 87'6 step was 12' every jump...poles between a 4.60 16.0 and 4.75 18.4, 17.8 grip 14'4-14'7

March 6, 2012 Practice

lol had a blast today, we had a rippin tailwind and I wanted to get my grip up so I made it happen! things were really sloppy the whole practice but I was working on that grip so it worked. Also i gotta work more on moving the hands right off the ground and swinging faster.....idk

Ill fix the small detail during competition. But man that tailwind, love this time of year

o and idk why the camera is reverse from the way we actually jumped...weird

March 3, 2012 UNF INVITE

Got to UNF around 3:30pm, we didn't start warming up until 4:45. Warm ups started a good, I took three jumps. First jump was on my 4.75 16.0 holding 14'7, I like to get the feeling of the pole rolling nice and quick. Second jump went to my 4.90 18.4 holding 14'10", the pole moved very well with my step at 12'6 n a big bungee clear at 5.35m. Next jump I went to my 4.90 17.9 grip 15', I really hit the take off nice, step was 12'8 I moved the hands very well and had a big clear at 5.50m. I was so pumped, I decided to shut it down and put the sweats on. Well thirty two jumpers later and three and a half hours later I came in at 16'11, first jump idk what happened. I planted and hit the runway with the tip of my pole n slide it into the box and popped straight up. Second jump had a huge clear, everything was on just wasn't penetrating like I was in warm ups. Needed to move the standards. Grip was 15'. Last jump moved my grip down n blew through the pole. Bummer....whelp maybe next time

Feb 27, 2012 Practice

6L start mark 89' pole 4.75 17.8 grip 14'6 step 12'

9L start mark 131'8 pole 4.90 18.4 grip 14'10" step 12'

Felt really good today until we had to sit for an hr after warming up because of lightening. Thanks greg. Went back out, got loose started from 6l took about 6 jumps. We had a tailwind but wasn't feeling it from short. Moved back to 9L as the wind switched to a head wind. I let my head get the best of me, I was feeling good but couldn't get the rhythm going. My step was very inconsistent ranging form 12' to 12'6" but I made the best of it and had fun. I have to get back into the swing of things

Feb 4, 2012 Armory New Balance, New York

This was a fun meet for me, great energy, lots of great vaulters and a fast runway. I didn't clear the bars I would of liked to but I some good things on big poles. I started on the 4.75 15.6 which is the biggest pole I've ever come in on and worked to the biggest pole I've ever been on indoor and out 4.75 15.o. Grip was anywhere from 14'8-14'10, still trying to get that up. My step went back to 118'3, awesome...thanks Nicole! All in all it was a good meet.

Practice Notes:

WOW, I have to remember today!! Good energy, positive thinking and good outcomes.

I came into practice really exhausted didn't think it was going to be a good day. Once I got rollin things were awesome!! I really wanted to focus on my left arm just hitting it good at take off and making sure my wrist was under the pole with my palm up...and push through the pole.

I executed this very well today, each jump I hit pretty good, nice and tall and all the way through the pole! From 4L, pole 14'6, 170lbs grip 13'10".

Moved back to five and continued executing the left arm with great results, got a little tired at the end but feels really good to work through this problem....this is a key focus for me throughout the fall and every practice.

5L pole 15' 175lb grip 14'1

Practice Notes:

Had a few break throughs today at practice. It was a good day, learned some things and had fun. I cleared 5.05 from 5 on a 15' 16.0 (180) holding 14'1", take off step 11'4", slight tail wind.

Key things I worked on, my left arm, really hitting it up and over the head at take off. Also driving my right knee early and beating my pole time in the box.

-Major learning point is to focus on my left arm and making sure I get it high over my head at take off forcing my knee drive to start early, creating a good fast take off. The last three steps become quicker when I focus on the left arm. So in the future, think left arm...not the knee. (works best for me)
